Breast Cancer

The most common cancer for Australian women is breast cancer, with 1 in 9 women contracting breast cancer in their lifetime. The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age, with 75% of cases being diagnosed in women over 50 years of age. If you are over the age of 40, you are able to get free mammography screenings every 2 years. If you are concerned about any persisting changes in your breasts, book an appointment with one of our doctors for an examination.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is the growth of cancerous cells in the lining of the cervix. Thankfully, cases of cervical cancer have halved since the introduction of the National Cervical Screening Program in 1991. The most common signs of cervical cancer are vaginal bleeding between periods, pain/bleeding during intercourse and unusual vaginal discharge. If you are concerned about any symptoms, we can organize a Pap smear test for you.

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the result when skin cells are damaged by overexposure to ultra-violet radiation from the sun. At SGMC, our doctors recommend regular skin cancer checks as over 80% of Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 80. Dr Jeet Garud has diplomas in Skin Cancer Medicine, Skin Cancer Surgery and Dermoscopy, and he is fully trained in Skin Cancer treatment. He can provide both a full skin examination and surgical management including a biopsy and excision.

Family Planning/Contraceptives

If you’re sexually active and don’t want to get pregnant, you need to use contraception (otherwise known as birth control or family planning). We can recommend the best type of contraceptive based on your needs and requirements.

Menopause and Hormones

Menopause marks the end of a woman’s reproductive life, and typically occurs between the ages of 45 to 55 years. At menopause, your body no longer produces oestrogen and progesterone, resulting in fluctuations of hormone levels. If you are concerned about menopause, or other women’s issues like PCOS or Endometriosis our doctors can offer advice relevant to you.

Pregnancy & Maternity Care

If you have just found out you are pregnant, it is important to see your doctor regarding antenatal care. They will allow your doctor to check your health and your baby’s health regularly in order to treat any problems early.
